When it matters

• Fire backup when lighter is flooded: matches work wet; lighter doesn't. You find dry tinder and ignite it with wet-proof match.
• Distributed fire-starting: one pack in main kit, one in evacuation bag, one in vehicle. If primary lighter fails, third backup is in your pocket.
• High-altitude or extreme-wind bug-out: windproof match head burns despite gusts; ferro rod spark gets blown out in same conditions.

Built to last

Every match is single-use, so count them and ration them. Windproof coating makes them burn slower and hotter than regular matches (harder to light tinder sometimes). Not waterproof to submersion, only spray/splash. Plastic case seals degrade over time.

Field notes

• Store in warm, dry place—damp conditions degrade chemical coating. Keep sealed until use.
• Before use in emergency, test one match in safe setting. Chemical coatings are variable; some brands light cleanly, others require hard scraping.
• Match stick is thin—use for tinder ignition only. Ferro rod is better for heavy kindling.

FAQ

Q: Do these really work in wind? Better than regular matches. Heavy wind still blows them out unless protected by cupped hands or shelter. They're resistant, not immune.

Q: How many fires will a box start? At best, one fire per match. Build your tinder right so none are wasted. Real world: ~25–30 successful fires due to failed lights.

Q: Can I get them wet and they still work? Case is waterproof-ish, but case seals degrade. Water-splashed matches may still light if dried quickly. Submerged = likely failure.
