Built to last

Important limitations: this is not a substitute for a deadbolt lock. Works ONLY on inward-opening doors where you can position it from inside; useless on outward-opening doors or doors with external-only hinges. Does not work on metal security doors, heavy deadbolts, or purpose-built exterior doors. Effective against casual intrusion or accidental entry; determined forced entry will defeat it. Plastic or soft metal construction means repeated force will damage the lock itself. Not suitable for long-term home security; designed as temporary travel or emergency shelter tool.

Field notes

• Test this lock on every door type in your home and shelter locations before emergencies occur. Inward-opening doors work well; outward-opening or sliding doors will not cooperate with this design.
• Position the lock under the door handle or at the bottom of the door frame for maximum leverage; a wedge at mid-height is less effective than one at the hinge or handle end.
• A person with a key or access from outside can still bypass this lock by removing the door frame or using pry-bar force. This provides a delay and audible warning, not absolute security.

FAQ

Q: Will this lock work on my apartment door? A: Only if your door opens inward (hinges on inside, you pull it toward you to enter). Most apartment doors open inward; test with the lock before relying on it. Doors opening outward (pushing away to exit) will not work with this design.

Q: Can I use this on sliding doors? A: No. This wedge-latch design only works on hinged, inward-opening doors. Sliding glass doors need different security measures like floor wedges or lockable track bars.

Q: How strong is this lock against forced entry? A: It delays and alerts; it does not stop determined forced entry. Someone with a pry-bar or saw can defeat it. Use as a supplementary lock and alert system alongside other security measures, not as a primary defense.
